Here is a large US ammonite. This is Calycoceras wintoni from the Cretaceous of Texas. This type of ammonite has very coarse ribs that terminate in large nodes near the wide keel. This cephalopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The ribbing pattern and the nodes are quite evident. This ammonite has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. Both sides of the ammonite are extremely ''clean'' - a few of the hollow chambers are seen on the back side. This is a great specimen of this Lower Cretaceous ammonite from Texas.
