This is a very aesthetic plate of brachiopods. There are five examples of Platystrophia ponderosa on this slab. These HUGE Ordovician brachiopods have both valves intact and tightly articulated. The fossil ''lampshells'' are extremely inflated and exhibit excellent detail. The coarse plications of the shells are easily seen, and the fine growth lines are quite evident. The fossils have nice color and contrast and are well positioned on the natural plate of shale. This is a very nice specimen of five large Ordovician brachiopods from Kentucky.
