This is an extremely rare ammonite from Australia. This is Toxoceratoides sp. from the Cretaceous. This type of ammonite grows in a coiling pattern at the beginning, then a straight pattern, and later a semi-coiling pattern. This unusual heteromorphic ammonite is very 3-dimensional and exhibits great detail. The coarse ribbing and the loose-coiling pattern of the cephalopod are wonderfully displayed. The colorful, nacreous shell of the specimen contrasts nicely with the grey matrix. The fossil is well positioned on the large block of concretionary shale. This ammonite has been meticulously prepared so that it is elevated high above the matrix. This is a collectible example of a complete heteromorphic ammonite from ''"Down Under''.
