This is a rare fossil blastoid. It is Troosticrinus reinwardti from Decatur County, Tennessee. Blastoids first appeared in the fossil record during the Ordovician and became extinct at the end of the Permian. This loose blastoid is quite distinct and exhibits fine detail. The wide ambulacra are nicely displayed, and the five-point symmetry is easily seen. This is a very good example of this rare Silurian blastoid from Tennessee.
