Here is a very distinct ammonite from Nigeria. This is Vascoceras costatum from the Cretaceous. This ''wide-bodied'' ammonite is loose - removed from the surrounding matrix. The coiled cephalopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail - the inner whorls of the ammonite are easily seen, and the complex suture pattern is preserved in beautiful fashion. This is an excellent specimen of Vascoceras costatum from the wilds of Africa.
