This is an extremely rare fossil insect. It is a very detailed Damselfly from the Green River Formation of Utah. Ground-dwelling insects are relatively common fossils, and flying insects are also occasionally unearthed. But one of the rarest and most delicate insects in the world is a fossil Damselfly. This specimen has the head, body, and legs nicely intact. The textbook large eyes and segmented abdomen are both easily seen. The overall detail of the Damselfly is exceptional, and the natural color and contrast are quite striking. And there are also two nice Craneflies preserved near the Damselfly. This is a fabulous example of a very rare fossil Damselfly, found in the Green River Formation.
