This is a beautiful multiple plate of Pentremites sp. from the Mississippian of Illinois. There are 7 specimens of at least two different species of Pentremites on this plate. One type has a very short pelvis, while the other kind has an elongated pelvis. The blastoids exhibit excellent detail - the plate structure is well defined, and the ambulacra are wonderfully preserved. The large blastoid in the middle-left looks like it may have had predatory damage - cool! The fossils are extremely 3-dimensional and have great color and contrast. The blastoids are nicely positioned on the natural plate of matrix. This is a very interesting assemblage of fossils from the Ridenhower Formation.
