Here is a large specimen of Lituites littuus from the Ordovician of China. This strange nautiloid starts growing in a coiling pattern and then straightens out. This interesting cephalopod is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits fine detail. The straight-line sutures are easily seen, and the individual body chambers are quite evident. The specimen has nice white color and contrasts wonderfully with the reddish-brown matrix. The fossil is well centered on the rectangular block of matrix that has been semi-polished for optimal display. This is a very aesthetic specimen of this unusual, semi-coiled nautiloid.
