This is a very displayable cystoid. It is a large example of Caryocrinites ornatus from the Rochester Shale of New York. This type of primitive echinoderm has a somewhat ovate cup comprised of large, highly ornamented plates. The plate structure of this specimen is easily seen. A very long stem is still tightly attached to the theca of the cystoid. The fossil has very good color and contrast and is well centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a wonderful specimen of Caryocrinites from the Silurian of New York.
