This is a very collectible fossil. It is a complete Chesapecten nefrens from the famous Calvert Area of Maryland. This type of bivalve is a scallop, as seen by the shape of the shell. This huge specimen has both halves of the shell intact and fossilized together. The top side of the scallop has MANY barnacles fossilized on it - it is quite rare to have these fragile barnacles preserved. The back side shell also displays very well. This is an unusual fossil symbiosis from the Chesapeake Bay region.
