This is an extremely rare fossil. It is a distinct Spider (Araneae) and fish from the Cretaceous of Brazil. Spiders from the Cretaceous are extremely rare - dinosaurs were still alive at this time! This specimen has the head, body, and long legs intact and easily seen. The fossil displays beautifully on the large, unbroken plate of shale that also contains a partial fish fossil! A spider preserved on shale is very rare, but one fossilized with a fish is almost unheard of.
