Here is a very distinct ammonite from Africa. This is Tomasites sp. from the Cretaceous of Nigeria. This ''wide-bodied'' ammonite is loose - removed from the surrounding matrix. The coiled cephalopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail - the knobby nature of the ammonite is easily seen, and the complex suture pattern is preserved in beautiful fashion. This is an excellent specimen of Tomasites sp. from the ''wilds'' of Africa.
