Here is a very interesting cephalopod. This is a fine specimen of a belemnite, Belemnitella junior, from the Cretaceous of Belgium. A belemnite was a squid-like animal, closely related to a modern-day cuttlefish. This bullet-shaped belemnite is unusually complete and very 3-dimensional. The fossil is beautifully pearched on a natural block of sandstone. The cephalopod has wonderful orangish coloration and a slightly transclucent quality. The living chamber is intact, which is very unusual. This is a very collectible specimen of an extinct Belemnite from Belgium.
