Here is an excellent fossil Oreodont skull. Oreodonts were extinct herding animals, similar to sheep, that roamed the plains east of the present-day Rocky Mountains. This is Merycoidodon culbertsoni from the Oligocene of Nebraska. This large skull is complete and very 3-dimensionally preserved. It has been prepared on both sides so it can be displayed at any angle. The lower jaws are nicely articulated, and the teeth display extremely well in the open mouth. The skull sits on a custom-made stand with a beautiful wood base. This is a wonderful display specimen of an Oreodont skull from the Oligocene.
