Here is a very nice multiple ammonite specimen from the Jurassic of Russia. There are five gorgeous ammonites clustered together on a matrix of iron pyrite or "fool's gold". These are Cosmoceras sp ammonites. . Cosmoceras have somewhat faint ribbing and a very sharp keel. All of the ammonites are very 3-dimensional and exhibit excellent detail - the extreme inner whorls are easily seen. The ammonites have wonderful natural coloration - they retain the highly iridescent, mother-of-pearl shell. The colors are much more vibrant in person than what the pictures show. The ammonites almost appear to be replaced by fire opal - the colors are that intense. A matrix of golden, sparkling pyrite crystals makes for an exquisite presentation. This is an outstanding display plate of ammonites from the Jurassic of Russia.
