Here is a very large Stromatolite specimen from the Archaean of Wyoming. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This particular stromatolite has been dated to 2.58 billion years old! This detailed slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The colorful, layered mineral replacement is clearly defined and makes for a unique presentation. This is a beautiful example of this extremely unusual stromatolite from the Old West.
