Here is a very interesting stromatolite from the Precambrian of Sweden. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This stromatolite is estimated to be 2.0 to 2.2 billion years old! This distinct slice of stromatolite has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The layered depositional pattern of this stromatolite is beautifully preserved. The green color and unique pattern make for a striking exhibit. This is a wonderful example of an ancient stromatolite from Northern Europe.
