This is a very uncommon specimen of Rhabdocidaris pouechi from the Eocene of Spain. This distinct sea urchin has been extracted from the matrix in which it was found. The fossil is quite robust and exhibits extremely fine detail. The entire test is covered with small pustules, and the thin ambulacra are very easily seen. This is an excellent example of this rare echinoid from Europe.
