This is a classic horseshoe crab fossil. It is a HUGE Mesolimulus walchi from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. Horseshoe crabs and dragonflies are probably the most sought-after fossils from this site. This specimen is complete and has very good color and contrast. The crab is very inflated and has nice detail preserved. The distinct arthropod is well showcased on the natural-edged plate of lithographic limestone that displays the crab's final "Death Trail', showing where it stopped walking on the sea floor for the last time. This is a very collectible example of this extremely recognizable fossil from the ''Age of the Dinosaurs''.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
