Here is a very ornate echinoid from Europe. It is an unusual Goniopygus delphinensis from Spain. This inflated sea urchin has great form and exhibits very fine detail, especially under magnification. This type of echinoid has very thin ambulacra, and the entire test is covered with ornate, knobby tubercles, which were the points of spine attachment. The sea urchin is fully free of matrix, and can be viewed from all angles. This is a very distinct specimen of this unusual urchin from the Cretaceous of Spain.
