This is a distinct ammonite fossil. It is a large Deschaesites imitator from the Cretaceous of Russia. This type of ammonite has strong ribs that are very easily seen. This cephalopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The coiling pattern of the mollusk is quite evident, and the tiny, inner whorls of the ammonite are intact and very easily seen. The colorful nacreous and pyritized shell of the ammonite is still intact and contrasts well with the light-colored matrix. The ammonite is beautifully perched on the large block of sculpted limestone. This is a fine display specimen of a large Cretaceous ammonite from Russia.
