Here is an outstanding brittlestar plate that we recently acquired from an old collection. This is Geocoma libanotica from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Complete brittlestars are quite rare in the fossil record due to the delicate nature of the extremely thin arms. This unusual double is wonderfully complete - the large central disc is easily seen, and all five sinuous arms are intact to the tiny, tiny tips on both brittlestars. The fine detail of the fossils is just exquisite - even the individual plates of the slender arms are clearly defined. The brittlestars have great, natural color and contrast and are well centered on the rectangular plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a museum-quality brittlestar pair that displays beautifully.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
