Here is a very nice double specimen of Silurian gastropods. These fossil snails are Platyostoma niagarense from the Waldron Shale of Indiana. The quarry where this specimen was found is now filled with water. There are two fabulous specimens preserved on this plate. The fossils are extremely 3-dimensional and exhibit fine detail. The coiling pattern of the gastropods is well defined - even the very tiny inner coils of the specimens are intact. The dark fossils contrast beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The gastropods are well showcased on the squared plate of shale that also contains brachiopods and other fossils. This is a textbook double specimen of Silurian gastropods from this classic site.
