This is a very collectible fossil. It is a complete Chesapecten nefrens from the famous Calvert Area of Maryland. This type of bivalve is a scallop, as seen by the shape of the shell. This colorful specimen has both halves of the shell intact and fossilized together. The top side of the scallop has TWO excellent barnacles preserved on it - it is quite rare to have a fragile barnacle still intact. The back side shell also displays well. This is an unusual fossil symbiosis from the Chesapeake Bay region.
