This is a beautiful ammonite fossil. It is a natural double Jeletzkytes nebrascensis from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. This type of ammonite has numerous ribs and many distinct large nodes. The keel is quite flat, with a row of prominent nodes on both sides. These ammonites are very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibit fine detail. The cephalopods are extremely inflated and 3-D, and the reddish-brown iridescent nacre is beautifully displayed. The ammonites are wonderfully preserved in a large, natural block of concretionary matrix. This is a very displayable pair of Jeletzkytes from the Fox Hills Formation.
