Here is a very uncommon fossil arthropod. This is a large Macropenaeus shrimp from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This genus of shrimp should not be confused with the smaller, much more common Carpopenaeus callirostris. The shrimp is complete and exhibits great detail. The head, segmented carapace, and tail are clearly defined. The long, slender antennae and legs are nicely displayed (some enhancement). The beautiful color of the fossil contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The specimen is well showcased on the rectangular plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a large, displayable specimen of an unusual fossil shrimp from Lebanon.
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally.
