Here is a beautiful echinoid that we recently obtained from an old echinoderm collection. This is Hemipneustes radiatus from the Cretaceous of the Netherlands. It has been many years since we have seen one of these gigantic echinoids. This sea urchin is extremely 3-dimensional and very well preserved. The specimen has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. This sea urchin is very "clean" and exhibits wonderful detail. The plate structure is quite evident and the ambulacra are clearly defined. This is a very displayable example of a fossil sea urchin.
