Here is a beautiful specimen of Lituites littuus from the Ordovician of China. This strange nautiloid starts growing in a coiling pattern and then straightens out. This interesting cephalopod is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits fine detail. The straight-line sutures are easily seen, and the individual body chambers are quite evident. The specimen has nice white color and contrasts wonderfully with the dark brown matrix. The fossil is well centered on the rectangular block of matrix that has been semi-polished for optimal display. This is a very aesthetic specimen of this unusual, semi-coiled nautiloid
