Here is a very beautiful ornate echinoid from Africa. It is a fabulous Heterodiadema libyca from Morocco. This inflated sea urchin has great form and exhibits very fine detail, especially under magnification. This type of echinoid has very thin ambulacra, and the entire test is covered with ornate, knobby tubercles, which were the points of spine attachment. The sea urchin is fully free of matrix, and can be viewed from all angles. This is a very detailed specimen of this distinct urchin from the Cretaceous of Morocco.
