This is a distinct ammonite fossil. It is a large Deschaesitessp. from the Cretaceous of Russia. This type of ammonite has weak ribs that are very easily seen. This cephalopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The coiling pattern of the mollusk is quite evident, and the tiny, inner whorls of the ammonite are intact and very easily seen. The colorful nacreous and pyritized shell of the ammonite is still intact and contrasts well with the large matrix piece. The ammonite is beautifully displayed on the large block of sculpted limestone. This is a very fine display specimen of a large Cretaceous ammonite from Russia.
