This is an extremely large example of a colorful Collenia stromatolite from the Precambrian of Wisconsin. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This stromatolite specimen is believed to be 2.2 billion years old! This massive slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The unique greenish-and-white banded coloration of this stromatolite makes for a striking specimen. This is a monster display example of an extremely old piece of the Earth's history.
