This is a great specimen of one of the most desirable ammonites from the United States. This is a beautiful Placenticeras meeki from the Cretaceous of Montana. This ammonite is characterized by having broad convex, nearly unornamented flanks and smooth venter. This disc-shaped ammonite has a very narrow, flat keel. The outer shell has been removed from the ammonite to display the beautiful suture pattern of the cephalopod. The white suture pattern contrasts beautifully with the dark ammonite. The cephalopod is fully free of matrix, so the fossil can be displayed from all angles. This is a very fine specimen of Placenticeras meeki from Montana.
