This is a very displayable plate of cystoids. These are Pleurocystites squamosus from the Ordovician of Canada. This specimen was recently acquired from a major fossil collection. There are three specimens of this primitive echinoderm on the plate - it is very unusual to find this many nice Pleurocystites in such close proximity to each other. The cystoids exhibit extraordinary detail - the plate structure is easily seen, and the pore-rhombs are beautifully displayed. The long, thin arms and longer, tapering stems are present on all of the cystoids, which is highly uncommon. The cream-colored echinoderms contrast wonderfully with the grey matrix (more striking than the picture shows). The fossils are nicely showcased on the rectangular plate of limestone that also contains crinoid and starfish parts. This is a top quality multiple plate of Pleurocystites from the Ordovician of Canada.
