This is a fabulous fossil nautiloid. It is a colorful Cymatoceras saholaons from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This extremely robust cephalopod has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. The primitive, straight-line sutures define this fossil as a rare nautiloid, rather than an ammonite. The coiling pattern of the nautiloid is easily seen, and the individual body chambers are quite distinct. The large fossil has been highly polished on all sides, and the beautiful natural coloration makes for a spectacular display. This is a very displayable specimen of a coiled nautiloid from the Cretaceous. (The white streaks are in the photos, not on the fossil.)
This fossil was collected and obtained legally, and is also being sold legally. A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS is included with this specimen.
