This is one of the more uncommon types of echinoderms found in Morocco. It is a Cothurnocystis sp. Carpoid, a cornute, from the Basal Upper Fezouata Formation of Zagora, Morocco. Carpoids were extremely primitive echinoderms somewhat related to cystoids. This specimen's features are very well displayed. The plate structure of the carpoid is also nicely intact, which is almost never preserved. The striking natural coloration contrasts beautifully with the greenish-grey plate of shale. This is easily one of the better examples of this strange Carpoid we have ever had.
