This is a very unusual echinoderm fossil. It is a large Juliaecarpus milnerorum, a primitive carpoid, from the Ordovician of Morocco. Carpoids were primitive echinoderms similar to cystoids, but much rarer. This specimen is well articulated, showing the holdfast, or ''tail'', and the distinct body. The plate structure of the carpoid is beautifully displayed under magnification. The fossil is extremely 3-D and well showcased on the large concretion that also contains a partial and a complete baby carpoid! This is a fabulous example of this rare, enigmatic echinoderm from Morocco.
