This is a beautiful ammonite fossil. It is a natural double Scaphites sp. from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. These ammonites are very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits fine detail. The cephalopods are well preserved, and the white, iridescent nacre is beautifully displayed. The ammonites are wonderfully displayed in a large, natural block of concretionary matrix that also has bivalves and other fossils preserved. This is a very colorful pair of Scaphites ammonites from the Fox Hills Formation.
