Here is an extremely interesting plate of fossils from the Mississippian of Missouri. There are eighteen blastoids, two crinoids, and a coral on this slab of limestone. In the center of the slab is a nice example of Abatocrinus laura. This crinoid is very 3-dimensional and exhibits fine plate structure. To the left of the Abatocrinus is a solitary or "horn" coral. An excellent Agaricocrinus brevis is on the right side of the plate. This crinoid has very stellate plates on the cup. The stem attachment point is quite evident. Randomly scattered across the plate are eighteen specimens of Cryptoblastus melo. These melon-shaped blastoids are well defined - the thin ambulacra are easily seen. It is highly unusual to find such a high concentration of echinoderms in this formation. The whitish coloration of the fossils contrasts nicely with the orangish-brown matrix. They are nicely presented on a large, rectangular plate that is loaded with other echinoderm fragments. This is an outstanding display plate of different fossils from the Lower Burlington Formation of Missouri.
