This is a very colorful ammonite double from Russia. There are two fine ammonites, Cosmoceras proniae and Perisphinctes sp.on the plate. Cosmoceras has pronounced ribbing and a sharp keel. These specimens are preserved in a very 3-dimensional manner and exhibit fine detail. The ribbing patterns are easily seen, and the inner coils are clearly defined. The nacreous shell of the cephalopods is intact, and the gorgeous iridescent coloration is just spectacular. The color is even more stunning than what the photo shows. The ammonites are wonderfully perched atop the block of concretionary matrix that is covered with sparkling pyrite crystals. This is a beautiful pair of iridescent ammonites from Russia.
