This is an extremely rare fossil blastoid from LeGrand, Iowa. This legendary location has been closed to collecting for many decades. However, we have acquired a lot of crinoids and blastoids from the collection of Professor Lowell Laudon, who found them in the late 1930's and kept them unprepared. They have just recently been prepared, using modern techniques under a microscope. This specimen is Pyramiblastus fusiformis - blastoids from LeGrand are very rare, and ones with stem and a full set of brachioles are hardly ever seen. This specimen possesses one of the best assemblages of brachioles we have ever seen - the hair-like filaments are very easily seen. The blastoid is naturally showcased on the sculpted matrix plate that also contains some crinoid stems and parts. This is a top quality example of Pyramiblastus fusiformis from LeGrand - easily one of the best ever found.
