Here is a very striking stromatolite specimen. This is a fine Copperia tubiformis from the Precambrian of Australia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This stromatolite has been estimated to be 2.2 to 2.4 billion years old! This slab displays well on both sides. The unique coloration is totally natural and makes for a great conversation piece. This is a very distinct specimen of this striking stromatolite form from ''Down Under''.
