This is a very nice ammonite fossil. It is a fine specimen of Discoscaphites conradi from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. This type of ammonite has faint ribbing and a somewhat rounded keel. There are several rows of prominent nodes on the shoulders and near the keel of the ammonite. These features are very clearly defined on this specimen. The ammonite has very nice natural brown color. The iridescent nacre of this ammonite is easily seen on the back side. The specimen has a small chunck of matrix attached at the bottom. This is a great example of a large Discoscaphites conradi.
