This is a beautiful specimen of Gogia spiralis from the Middle Cambrian of Utah. This primitive echinoderm used to be known as an eocrinoid, but has now been re-classified as a cystoid. This specimen is complete and exhibits wonderful detail. The elongate, multi-plated, sac-like holdfast is intact and very distinct. The large-plated, nodose calyx is quite evident, and the twisted, spiraled arms are beautifully displayed in a widely splayed position. The fossil has fabulous color and contrast and is well centered on the large, squared plate of shale. This is a great example of this distinct Cambrian echinoderm.
