This is an excellent specimen of Hoploscaphites nicolletti from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. The fossil cephalopod is inflated and complete all the way down to the aperture. The faint ribbing pattern and the nodes around the shoulgers of the ammonite are nicely displayed. The white shell still has most of the iridescent mother-of-pearl color preserved. The ammonite is beautifully positioned on the natural matrix block, which also contains another nice ammonite. This is a very pretty ammonite fossil from the Cretaceous of South Dakota.
