Here is a very large US ammonite. This is Calycoceras wintoni from the Cretaceous of Texas. This type of ammonite has very coarse ribs that terminate in large nodes near the wide keel. This cephalopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The ribbing pattern and the nodes are quite evident. Remarkably, some of the ornate suture pattern of the ammonite is beautifully displayed. This is a great specimen of this Lower Cretaceous ammonite from Texas.
