Here is a very nice fossil crustacean from a classic location. This is Belotelson magister from the Pennsylvanian of Illinois. This famous site (Pit 11) has been closed to collecting for a number of years. The shrimp is well preserved in a siderite concretion. Both halves of the concretion are present so both part and counterpart are intact. The shrimp exhibits fine detail - the head, body, and tail of the shrimp are wonderfully displayed. Even the antennae and eyes are quite evident. The fossil has very good color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered in the concretion. This is a great example of a fossil shrimp from the Coal Age.
