This is a very striking example of Gogia spiralis from the Wheeler Shale of Utah. This primitive echinoderm used to be known as an eocrinoid, but has now been re-classified as a cystoid. This large specimen is complete and exhibits wonderful detail. The multi-plated, sac-like holdfast is present and very distinct. The cystoid has a large-plated, nodose calyx that is quite evident, and long, twisted, spiraled arms that are beautifully showcased in a splayed position. The fossil has excellent natural color and is beautifully centered on the large, squared plate of shale. This is a very collectible example of this extinct echinoderm from Utah.
