Here is a beautiful example of Pleuroceras spinatus from the Jurassic of Germany. This type of ammonite has coarse ribs and a wide keel with a continuous ridge running the length of the keel. The ammonite is 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits fine detail. The inner whorls of the cephalopod are clearly defined, and the intricate suture pattern is easily seen. The ammonite has been replaced by iron pyrite, or ''fool's gold'' - the golden coloration of the ammonite makes for a very striking display. This is a very pretty specimen of Pleuroceras spinatus from Germany.
