(Note: This specimen is not a stromatolite.) This is an extremely old and interesting rock specimen. It is a slice of the famous Acasta Gneiss. The Acasta Gneiss is a rock outcrop of Hadean tonalite gneiss in the Slave craton in Northwest Territories, Canada. The Acasta River rock deposit, believed to be over 4 billion years old, is the oldest known intact crustal fragment on Earth. Found in 1989, it is the oldest known exposed rock in the world. This slice has fabulous structure and very nice natural color. The large size also make it very collectible. This is a very detailed specimen of the original Earth's crust.
