This is a beautiful ammonite fossil. It is a super specimen of Hoploscaphites cheyennensis from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. This type of ammonite has faint ribbing and a somewhat squared keel. There is one rows of LARGE nodes on the shoulders and near the keel of the ammonite. These features are very clearly defined on this specimen. The shiny, iridescent shell of this ammonite is also very easily seen. The ammonite is well showcased on the large block of concretionary matrix. This is a wonderful display ammonite from the Black Hills.
